A vibe-coded violin tutor the kids prefer to their parent's teaching

Chrisman, cofounder and CEO of Synthesis School, kept catching themselves leaking frustration while teaching their kids violin, so they built a small practice tutor. The kids like it more, and the parent now gets the fun parts: excitement and duets.

Human teachers (and parents like me) have one serious drawback — we are always judging you. We leak clues we are frustrated or disappointed.

It’s impossible to hide. Kids are incredibly attuned to our judgments and we can’t avoid leaking them. We make kids give up on things before they even have a chance.

I saw myself making this same mistake for the zillionth time in teaching my kids violin. So I vibe coded a little practice tutor. I expected it to work well, but I’ve still been surprised at how much more the kids like it than me as a teacher.

Which is funny to me because the same brain that made the software is the one that failed them as a teacher. But by making the software I’m able to give them only the best version of me.

Now I get to focus on the fun parts — getting them excited about music, and playing duets (we perform classical hits like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star for their 2 year old brother) .

This to me is the promise of great AI tutors. Outsource the chores so the humans can do the uniquely human things.
